At Illinois Vein Specialists (IVS), the doctors and staff make patients their number one priority. From the minute they step into the office, patients are greeted by the welcoming staff and are seated in a waiting room that looks more like a living room than a doctor’s office. One of their patients even compared her experience at IVS to a spa.
IVS is able to provide this optimal experience due to the perfect blend of passion for vein care and having a small, local practice that is not attached to a larger chain of vein clinics. Dr. Rivard and Dr. Kanehann are certified by the Board of Vein and Lymphatic Medicine. This means they both went through a rigorous and highly specialized educational program that requires testing and ongoing medical education.
Through speaking with the doctors about their experience in the field, the passion for vein care and treating patients became immediately evident. Dr. Rivard became one of the first people to become certified by the board when it became available in 2008.
“I’ve performed more than 10,000 vein surgeries,” Dr. Rivard said. “That’s years of practice and expertise and evidence of competence you can trust.”
With a passion for vein care also comes the inevitable care and attention that Dr. Rivard, Dr. Kanehann, and the staff have for each patient. The doctors and staff have a personal relationship with each patient and give them the individual attention they deserve. This is why patients will never have to wait long to see Dr. Rivard or Dr. Kanehann or find that their appointment was double booked.
IVS takes it one step further by having an insurance specialist on staff that takes care of the entire insurance process, from getting approval from providers to the billing. As IVS believes that everyone who suffers from venous disease should be allowed treatment, the specialist works to ensure patients receive the maximum amount of insurance coverage.
Dr. Rivard, Dr. Kanehann, and the staff at IVS are also dedicated to spreading awareness about vein disease and the myths associated with vein care. They have a weekly blog on their website that is used as an informational resource for the public on topics surrounding vein disease, vein treatment, and varicose and spider veins.
“[People] should not wait until they have pain because pain is a very late finding,” Dr. Kanehann said. “85% of what we see here on initial evaluation is there’s a medical problem with circulation and only 15% of the time it is cosmetic.”
In the end, IVS is dedicated to making sure people receive proper and safe vein treatment and that their patients ultimately have a positive experience while in their care. This care extends beyond the last treatment: IVS makes sure to follow up with patients to ensure the treatment was successful and provide any additional information and support for up to two years or longer if needed.
“I would love for our potential patients to have a chat with our past patients,” Dr. Rivard said. “They would know that we’re committed to medical excellence and we treat our patients with kindness, compassion and joy. At Illinois Vein Specialists we are very good at what we do. The care we provide begins with kindness and ends with a joyous experience.”
